One of the things I like about @mikeyopp 's icebreaker questions he uses for his podcast is to ask what generation people are from, if any.

These "generations" are so cultural specific, and even people living under US and Canadian governments aren't experiencing the same culture. I have to look them up each time they are mentioned, as they generally have no meaning to me (It is part of my attempt at learning "pop culture" and "pop psychology").

I find much of the smalltalk scripts to be awkward, but I incorrectly assumed most of my life that they were equally awkward for everyone else. I didn't know why people insisted on them, only to find out that I'm Autistic and most other people I meet are not -- that they actually get enjoyment and a feeling of social connection with these smalltalk scripts.

If those awkward scripts are not in-style for a generation, I wonder if they can slowly fade away in mainstream North American culture entirely?
